Can ChatGPT track your expenses on its own?

What is MCP and why does it matter for a finance app?

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external apps and tools in a controlled way. An MCP finance app exposes specific actions, such as reading transactions or adding an expense, that the assistant can use with your permission.

The catetin.ai app in ChatGPT is built on MCP. You sign in with your own catetin.ai account, and the app can only reach the groups you are a member of.

How to connect catetin.ai to ChatGPT

1. In ChatGPT, open the apps directory and search for catetin.ai.
2. Select Connect.
3. Sign in with the same Google or Apple account you use for catetin.ai.
4. Review and approve the permissions.
5. Start a chat and try one of the example prompts below.

What about Claude?

A catetin.ai connector for Claude is coming soon. Until then, you can use catetin.ai in ChatGPT, or log expenses directly in the catetin.ai app with AI chat, receipt scans and voice notes on Android, iPhone, web and desktop.

What can ChatGPT do with your catetin.ai data?

Permissions are deliberately limited. ChatGPT only sees groups you are a member of, and any change to your data needs your confirmation each time.

• Read your group names, currencies and timezones.
• Read categories, transactions, summaries and dashboards.
• Create, update or delete transactions, only after you confirm each change.
• Scan a receipt photo or a voice note into a transaction draft for you to review.
• Export reports and send a message to a group.
• Read your plan and remaining AI quota.
